My local city is holding a heated election to save our schools. I am the campaign’s social networker. While being personally involved in the outcome of the election, I feel like I’m “tweeting for my life.” But, also, it’s been fun to develop a voice, learn more about what’s happening in my town outside of the school parcel tax, and make new connections. I helped build the Facebook audience from about 200 to nearly 900 followers (and counting). The Twitter audience is smaller, but is pushing up as the campaign heats up. I’ve learned a lot about how each vehicle serves a different purpose. Twitter has emerged in this instance, as a way to spread news. Retweets from champions are frequent and have really helped with our messaging. Facebook is very effective for keeping the base engaged.
